HHNTA is pleased to announce the reopening of the 2 and 3 Km loops at Twin Lakes. The 5 Km loop will be closed until further notice. Season pass holders, day ticket holders, and their dogs are once again welcome on the trails that are on Twin Lakes Resort property. 

Unfortunately, insurance limitations require us to close the trails to skijoring. Skijoring is being defined as “a skier or sled being pulled by a dog or dogs”. Any members that are adversely affected by the loss of skijoring at Twin Lakes can contact HHNTA for a refund of their seasons pass. For further information, please contact info@skihaliburton.com

The board of HHNTA thanks all Twin Lakes skiers for their patience and understanding while we worked to resolve these access issues.

After high winds, rain, and a drastic drop in temperatures, the skiing is quite good: a little speedy, but not icy. How does that happen? How do trails go from slushy and branch covered one day, to good skiing the next? This transition involved no less than 26 volunteer hours to pull off, and involved:

• Snowshoeing 11 Km of trail, raking and picking sticks off of trails,
• Cutting boughs and shovelling snow into bare/wet spots,
• Many, many passes by groomers to grind up and flatten out the frozen crust,
• Late night grooming to further smooth chunky snow.

Say a little Thank You when you ski this weekend. Raise a glass to the members that have decided good skiing is worth their time. Stop and pick up the sticks that they didn’t have time to clear, or couldn’t see in the pre-dawn darkness. Most importantly, have a great ski!

The Haliburton Highlands Nordic Trail Association is temporarily closing the Twin Lakes ski trails. The trails will be closed until land use agreements can be confirmed. We apologise for this inconvenience and will provide updates as soon as status changes. Trails at Glebe Park and Moosewoods are still open for skiing. Questions and concerns can be directed to info@skihaliburton.com.

Moosewoods is private land that HHNTA leases for the ski season. In the off (not skiing) season, it is an active logging operation, hunt camp, and trapping site. Please do not trespass on the Moosewoods trails, unless you are part of a designated trail work event. Thanks!

Out of the Blue bakery will have their wood-fired pizza oven on site at the Moosewoods warming hut from 11-1, this Saturday, March 12. Forecast is for sun, with good skiing temps right through the lunch hour. HHNTA Members get pizza for 1/2 price, everyone else is welcome.
