Many of you have noticed that we no longer list Moosewoods as one of our trail systems. After many years as our most beloved trail system – both for the gentle terrain and the beautiful warming hut – we not longer are able to groom on the property. We have always been tenants on that property, needing to renegotiate Land Use Agreements every time ownership changed.
2 years ago, Alderville First Nation purchased the land. We negotiated an agreement for the first winter. This summer, their council decided that hosting groomed ski trails was not compatible with their intended use of the land.
HHNTA views the loss of Moosewoods as bittersweet: we lament the loss of cherished trails while celebrating a small, but significant act of reconciliation.
